TEDx Fall Salon
ImpacTED
This was the first event that I helped plan as a new member of TEDxUIUC. The two salons the TEDx puts on each year are our "mini" events that aim to highlight more of the university's professors and students so that they can have a TED-like experience. The main event in the spring is where we bring in speakers from around the world. Our website is:
This salon's theme was "ImpacTED" which revolved around UIUC community members who are working towards creating impactful change. Whether it be fighting for social justice initiatives or working with grassroot non-profit organizations, our amazing speakers shared their experiences on ideas and issues they care about and how they wish to make a change on a local and global scale.
Some of the speakers that we highlighted are included in this link:
In the end, we had a full house and everyone really resonated with our local speakers. The cool aspect of our salons is that they are not fundraisers. Now, as a business major, I usually would never find this "cool". But, it's one of the rare events that you don't have to feel the pressure of donating or take out a small loan to attend and sometimes that is as important as fundraising. It helps with branding and sculpts TEDxUIUC's image to be that of a philanthropic and thought-provoking organization. This was the first of many adventures with TEDx.
